LOFT SALE: Joined form June 2026

The next offering from the loft isn’t really from the loft. It’s mostly been in the basement for the past 17 years. It’s a joined “form” - a period term for a bench. Think of it as an extended joined stool and you’d be right on the money. I made it maybe 25 years ago when I was working in the museum. We used it there for a while, it ended up in my shop as part of the fittings there. Then when we shifted things around, it came to me. We used it here at home when the kids were small - usually when company came over.

Joined forms are a common piece of furniture in the 17th century, often partnered with some joined stools all placed around a joined table. I’ve made maybe 10 or 12 of them over the years, most for the museum, some for clients. This one’s not a copy of a particular example - I remember the turning was mostly based on some English stools. The molded aprons are just following period practice - one profile on the face, a narrower one at the edge. It’s a red oak frame with a white pine seat. The seat is pegged to the four stiles as well as the long rails. Length is about 66”, height just over 21”. The spread of the feet on the ends is 16 1/2”.

The indoor shots are a bit darker than reality - probably because of the white background. This one does have something most of my stuff does not have - a patina. I just put a new coat of linseed oil on it too - it was a bit dusty.

Because of the size this one IS PICKUP ONLY. (I can setup a service to come get it & truck it - but it’ll cost you…I can’t pack it for shipping.

This is another of those “I doubt I’ll make that again…” projects, unless someone orders one.

$4,000.
