To Make as Perfectly as Possible: Roubo on Marquetry
lOST aRT PRESS DELUXE EDITION, 2013
Back in 2013 I signed on for a copy of Lost Art Press’s deluxe edition of “To Make as Perfectly as Possible: Roubo on Marquetry.” I don’t do marquetry, I don’t make French furniture - and on & on. But I knew from reading about it that this book was going to be astounding. And only available for a short time. I also planned on getting the 2nd volume, on furniture, that was to follow. Made sense to have them both. But - I quit my job between volume 1 and 2 - so never got the deluxe volume 2.
This volume lives up to all the hype. A beautiful book, completely engrossing. I don’t have any bookshelves capable of holding it, so I wrapped it up & put it in a closet. Once in a while, I’d haul it out & marvel at it all over again.
As part of my loft-sale, (It’s never been in the shop...but that’s just what the sale is called) I’m putting this book up for sale. Time for someone who missed out on it all those years ago to have a crack at it.
It’s in just-about-perfect condition. The slightest scuffing on the slipcase - hardly noticeable, but I want to make sure you know it’s there. The book is perfect.
The slipcase is 12 1/2” x 17 3/4” - 231 pages.

Another Lost Art Press rarity - “l’Art du Menuisier: The Book of Plates”
This one is just what it says, all the plates from Roubo’s work l’art du Menuisier. Done in usual LAP fashion - here’s their description from when it was published:
“The Book of Plates” is 472 pages long and contains every single plate from all of the volumes of André-Jacob Roubo’s 18th-century masterpiece. All the plates are printed in full size and on #100 Mohawk Superfine paper – the best paper we could find. The book itself is 10” x 14-1/4” x 2” thick – a sizable chunk.”
I bought it new in 2014. It’s been sitting on a shelf, the cover is a bit smudged, but otherwise the book is nearly perfect. Barely opened.
