LOFT SALE: WINDSOR CHAIRS, May 2026
The latest thing(s) I dragged down from the loft are two Windsor chairs. I have friends who make perfect Windsor chairs. From them I learned enough to be dangerous. I made these two chairs in the past couple of years and for one reason or another they ended up in the loft. It’s now time to move them along. BUT - I don’t want to ship them. I’m not set up to make serviceable crates and have never got around to figuring out how to get around it…so these would be “pick-up only”. I know that limits the pool of would-be-customers, but let’s see if anyone needs one of these...
Continuous Arm Chair
Painted red. Ash turnings, hickory spindles - I think, it’s that or white oak, and the bow is one or the other of those two as well. One-piece pine seat. I won’t go into the full details of why this chair is from the loft - but you can see the bow/arm spread wider than intended. It’s all still nice & strong, perfectly sound. It just wasn’t what I was trying for…
Overall height 37 1/2” width across elbows - 22 1/2” Seat height 18” seat depth 14 1/4”
Using the price of my JA style ladderback side chairs ($1,500) as a starting point- I put this one at $1,000.

This is one of my versions of Curtis Buchanan’s “democratic” side chair. I know the seat is again one-piece white pine. The legs, stretchers and posts are probably ash. Spindles hickory - crest maybe the same. There’s almost nothing about this one I disliked - just a bit of a gap where my crest rail meets the posts. I adapted Curtis’s crest tenons - instead of his round tenons I shaved flat ones to fit into a chiseled mortise. Yellow ochre oil paint.
Overall height: 36 1/2” at crest, 37 3/4” at posts, seat width: 18” seat depth: 15 1/4”
$800
